Six views of two Russia iron samples from the boiler jacket of Virginia & Truckee #22 Inyo (small square sample) and from the roof of narrow gauge Southern Pacific coach #1010, former San Joaquin & Sierra Nevada (large round sample). These were taken on June 7, 2008 in direct sunlight from different angles over the course of about an hour around noon. Note how the apparent “color” and reflectivity changes with the different angles. Also note how the two samples both often appear to be the same color as each other, but sometimes appear to be of two different colors – they are in fact nearly but not quite the same color. Also note the variations from light to dark in the appearance of the samples in different photographs.
